“A Song For You” – Song Lyric Sunday

I love Song Lyric SundayHelen Espinosa hosts this over on her blog. This week’s prompt was Love Songs, in honor of Valentine’s Day month. I had a hard time with this one, as I have soooo many!! Having said that, I have been married for almost 40 years, so there have been many that speak to me for so many reasons. I was able to cull it down to three – yeah, three. But I will only share info about one, and links to the other two, if you want to check them out.

One of my all time favorites is this beauty by Leon Russell – a master songwriter and performer who recently passed away. I love all of his music, but this one has always been special.

It’s called, “A Song For You,” and was written and recorded by Leon on his first album in 1970. Others have sang it and made it a hit, as well as earning awards for their performance. But – I think he does it best – most honest & raw! It is a beautiful song . . . and I hope you enjoy it ❤

A SONG FOR YOUWritten and performed by Leon Russell

I’ve been so many places in my life and time
I’ve sung a lot of songs, I’ve made some bad rhyme
I’ve acted out my life in stages
With ten thousand people watching
But we’re alone now and I’m singin’ this song for you

I know your image of me is what I hope to be
I’ve treated you unkindly but darling can’t you see
There’s no one more important to me
Darling can’t you please see through me
‘Cause we’re alone now and I’m singin’ my song to you

You taught me precious secrets of the truth, withholdin’ nothin’
You came out in front and I was hiding
But now I’m so much better so if my words don’t come together
Listen to the melody ’cause my love’s in there hiding

I love you in a place where there’s no space or time
I love you for my life, ’cause you’re a friend of mine
And when my life is over, remember when we were together
We were alone and I was singin’ my song for you

The other two I am quite fond of & come to mind often are:

[On a personal note – I Got You Babe has been me & my husband, from day 1 . . . if all other songs ceased to exist, this one would always be us . . .

Yeah – these 2 songs are decades apart ❤

Hope you enjoy them all and they bring a smile to your face and a wonderful memory to mind ❤

If you want, go check out Helen’s blog and maybe share a song special to you 🙂
