Her

night-owl2

I still see her in there …

Surrounded by the wrinkles and worry lines.

The weight of the world on her shoulders,

The keeper of memories and time.

Her mind aches,

And soon the day breaks.

And this night owl in her

Won’t let her mind shut down.

Thanks Charly – most of my poetry is sad, for some reason. Always has been, even when I was a teenager. Not sure why – just how that particular genre affects me. I know you’ve been busy, but would love for you to read the other 2 installments from my novel – parts 3 & 4? Would love your feedback. 🙂
Hope you are having a great day! How are your stories coming? Been writing on all 3 blogs tonight and on my novel – total 2nd wind and wild hair so totally flowing with it 😉 Shit, my husband will be up soon, may make him breakfast . . . I’m not much on breakfast (meaning I don’t eat it, but I have been up for quite some time w/o eating, so getting hungry), so he’ll like that ❤

Yes, Sadie. Can’t sleep, write sad poetry about can’t sleep, eat breakfast with hubby. I hope that helped you get to sleep! Nice work.

Thanks Mark! I have to admit, at 5:30 am, my battery just died – no warning, just poof! I had been up about 23 hours at that point. My husband was still sleeping, so I just went to sleep. No breakfast . . . but lots of writing that night – it was an inspired night & I was in the zone, so rode it out – posted on all my blogs and worked on the novel! 🙂

That’s a great night, Sadie. Sometimes I wake up in the wee with the next greatest idea and boom, I know I will be up wide-eyed until I get it down, and then, as you say, the tank is very empty. 🙂

Sadie – I love this poem for a few reasons. – first – it is one I can relate with – and I know many of us night owls can –
and second, I love the alliteration with the w’s in the first stanza – (and is it winkles or wrinkles?) – ha! but then I also like that you let the w’s go after that – the flow felt natural and also allows the poem to have “movement” – which I think you are really good at….
like the first stanza we see her in there – with the tasty visual – “keeper of memories”
and then the second one – I am not sure how to articulate it all – but the opening and ending ones of the mind – with day breaking – allows us to move through this poem…

lastly, I read the comments above and instead of sadness here – I felt depth – I felt realism – and maybe even a hint of angst – which could all fall under sadness – but it was more like this “Her” was contemplative and weighed down – which feels slightly different from sad… I dunno –
    but two thumbs up!
